About the city

Dourados, the second largest city in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, was founded in 1935 and is located 220 km from the capital Campo Grande and 120 km from the border with Paraguay. The region known as “Grande Dourados” comprises 37 towns and a population of about 800 thousand people. The city has approximately 230,000 inhabitants, 18,000 of which are indigenous divided between the Guarani Caiuá, Guarani Ñandeva and Terena ethnic groups. For this reason, the UFGD aiming to facilitate the access to qualified university education offers a Teaching degree in Indigenous Intercultural Education.
Over the last few decades, the Dourados region has proved to be an articulating center for regional development, one of the most important centers of agro-industrial growth in the country and also a center for higher education.
