Dean’s Office for Community Outreach and Culture – Proex

The Dean’s Office for Community Outreach and Culture (PROEX) is part of the Higher Administration of the Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD) and it is responsible for the coordination of the actions related to community outreach and culture. This is done through the Coordination Office for Community Outreach (COEX) and also the Coordination Office for Culture (COC).
The main principle of PROEX is to promote the dialogue between the university and society. It aims at “broadening the professional and citizenship development of students, promoting experience from the theories learnt at the university, helping students meet the demands of society so that an exchange of knowledge between the university and other sectors of society can effectively happen” (FORPROEX, 2012). PROEX shares knowledge through actions that promote a transforming interaction between UFGD and society. In order to do so, PROEX stimulates and accompanies the development of community outreach and cultural projects, using internal and external resources. In addition to that, PROEX advises the academic community regarding external financing agencies and offers them logistic support for the development of all actions registered in their files. This Dean’s Office encourages the creation and organization of artistic and cultural groups, offering them support for the development of actions which are proposed and organized by the academic community. PROEX also provides the academic community with means to execute community outreach and cultural actions by promoting and coordinating project selection processes for the achievement of financial aid.
Coordination Office for Community Outreach - COEX
The Coordination Office for Community Outreach (COEX) is the administrative unit that is responsible for implementing the policies and guidelines for community outreach actions in UFGD. It also has the function of supporting, guiding and accompanying community outreach actions carried out by the different academic and administrative units of the university. This office coordinates the institutional programs for interiorization, social and environmental technologies. COEX advises and offers support to professors, students and technical-administrative personnel of UFGD, with the goal of proposing and accompanying community outreach actions while making them more dynamic and optimized.
Coordination Office for Culture - COC

The Coordination Office for Culture (COC) is the administrative unit that is responsible for implementing the cultural policy of the university. In order to do this, COC articulates community outreach projects that prioritize the different forms of artistic and cultural expression of the members of the university community in their interaction with the external community regarding several cultural domains (Performing Arts; Visual Arts; Audiovisual; Photography; Dance; Literature; Music, Popular Culture, among others.) and the most varied fields of artistic languages and presentation and representation of culture.  COC organizes all efforts for UFGD to fulfill its function of creating and diffusing culture and art while constantly dialoguing with the community and popular groups.
Both coordination offices of PROEX develop their actions based on the teaching-learning and research process that is grounded in the demands of society. Also, both of them serve as articulating agents of dialogic interaction, of interprofessionality, of the inseparability of class education, research and community outreach, and of the impact of UFGD on students’ social and educational lives and on society. By doing so, these Coordination Offices accomplish the following goals:
a) Developing participative graduate students through a relationship that is based on sharing and exchanging.
b) Integrating class education, research and community outreach in the search for alternatives in order to transform and improve people’s quality of life, presenting solutions to problems and aspirations of the community.
c) Integrating university and society and creating benefits for both of them.
d) Stimulating cultural production in the academic community and in the surrounding communities.
